Was looking at some old videos on YouTube of the team and came across this one. I think he's still at home here.

Why is that?

Because they would recruit on a crazy level. Every kid from Chicago would go to DePaul. Kenny Payne is a big whisper. Payne and T Anderson who their assistant whould be scary on the recruiting trail
Depaul could max take like 3 kids from chicago every year. The CPL is overflowing with talent. This is not a well that Depaul alone can run dry.

Maybe. I'm sure their recruiting would improve. But he'll also learn that pitching kids on DePaul is a much harder sell than pitching kids on Kentucky.

Good point. Top facilities, crazy fans, a pathway to the NBA, etc. Kentucky is a world away from DePaul. About the only thing they have in common is they both wear blue. You still need to be able to coach them. I thought UIC tried this with Jimmy Collins. He had an impressive recruiting track record for Illinois and did reasonably well at UIC. Northwestern thought Chris Collins connections to the Northshore would work for them.

I think DePaul will reach out to Archie Miller. They will lose out on Beilein.

Honestly, DePaul’s best bet would be hiring Rick Pitino. He comes with baggage, but the truth is, they are in the dumpster right now and any amount of buzz or splash they can make without actually having to WIN GAMES IMMEDIATELY (which they don’t have the talent to do) would only help them. If they are willing to shell out money, Pitino or Greg Marshall should be their top targets. Those are semi-realistic, and both coaches may be willing to take the job just because they both know they come with their own baggage that makes it a little harder for a really good school to hire them.

They need to generate INTEREST, regionally and nationally, immediately to jumpstart that program. Those two guys are the only ones I can think that would do that.

So on an avg year there is maybe 3 kids in the top 100 from the CPL. if KP goes there I can see him taking the top players over the Illini. Yea it’s going to be harder than a blue blood but Dave leatio recruited top 100 players to a sh*t team and program. I think if he came in and would change it around then he would kill it there.

Why doesn’t LUC get more “top” cpl kids. Seems like an easy sell. Come here make the tourney and be on top of the MVC.

We don't send kids to the NBA

How soon does Greg Marshall get punched in the nose when he tries to big time just a random guy in Chicago who won't put up with that?

The top CPL kids, the real TOP are one and dones. We don't do one and dones. We do fine getting a handful of guys in the local top 10 rankings rather than the top 3.

In no world is DePaul getting kids over Illinois. Underwood has a track record of paying his players very well, their facilities and brand are about 100x better than DePaul. And to top it off, even Illinois doesnt get the top CPL kids, they end up at Duke/Michigan State/Kentucky because even Champaign doesnt have Blue Blood cash to offer.

If we make it to the sweet 16 this year and Porter stays, recruiting is going to get a lot harder for DePaul AND Illinois....
