Very interesting. 6'5 forward who put up 18.8 points and 9.5 rebounds in a competitive conference. Not really a threat from deep (28%) and struggled from the charity stripe (62%). But he's had a few impressive 15+ rebounds/15+ points performances.
Oof. Had no idea his shooting numbers were that godawful. Not sure how he's playable in our lineup, unless I'm missing something. Especially with Kennedy and Thomas's 3 pt shots both being very iffy this past year -- I think they'll improve that, but three guards/wings in the rotation with 25-30% 3PT in 2022 is a recipe for disaster. Seems like Ty's shot needs a lot of work as well.

We definitely need a 6'4/6'5 wing guy, but it needs to be a 3 and D guy. Shooting is a bigger priority than we realize.
Actually, if you strip away his 3 pt shooting he shot something like 56% from 2pt. He is not a 3 shooter, but he boards and and scores in the paint. Remember we are losing not only 3 shooters, but rebounders too. He looks like a Tate Hall type of player.

If it is true that TY is leaving, it does not surprise me. I do not think he was ready to play D1 and I thought he was not happy by his actions on the bench and even very late in a few games when he got in. With the kids coming in and Quise and Braden having time left, it was gonna be hard for him to get time moving forward. I am surprised that they did not red shirt him this year like they did with Ben. It will end up costing TY a year of actually playing. I can only surmise they were worried since Keith has the bad knee and they kept TY active as insurance if Braden or Quise had a major injury.

Not sure when this video was taken if it was today or not, but also worth noting he may have been a bit ambushed with this interview in which case I'd say he had pretty good 'the team, the team, the team' answers.

Also, TY just posted his desire to transfer on his IG.

This is the modern college bball world we live in...a disagreement, a better opportunity, who knows and you are gone. I really wanted to see TY play...seemed like an engaging young man . Was touted by Coach Valenting as the quickest Rambler up and down the court. This is my opinion with nothing to back it up but I think not only in style of play did he remind me of Cam Satterwhite but in attitude as well...in that he was a free lancer and offensive minded....I know the transfer portal has become part of the college bball scene...but I would like to see LU to be a team of kids who come in as freshman and stay and graduate......I even wonder if this is possible anymore!

To be fair, and has been noted by many including our coaches, we’ve been huge beneficiaries of transfers for the better part of the last decade. I’d say most of the minutes from major contributors have come from transfers, even before the transfer portal really took off. Milton Doyle, Montel James, Earl Peterson, Clayton Custer, Aundre Jackson, Aher Uguak, Marques Townes, Braden Norris, Tate Hall, Keith Clemons, Ryan Schwieger, Chris Knight, …To Be Continued.

interesting article in Sun Times...of x-Chicago high school area players now in the transfer portal. I believe we have showed interest in one of the players, Jeremia Williams from Temple..?

Sorry to see TY go.....like others, I think he is a talented player who eventually would have been significant contributor here. But from TY's perspective - he sees Braden and Marquisse coming back...he sees 2 freshman guards coming in next year that are bigger than him and are Drew's first recruits (TY was a Porter recruit), and he sees Drew extremely active in the transfer portal for more than just bigs. His future was pretty cloudy here....so I am not surprised to see it happen and it will probably end up being good for us.

Someone referred to TY as a PG....but I don't think that is what he is. He looks like a PG physically, but I see him as more of an undersized 2G....super quick, score first, with the ability to get to the rim, but without a particularly good outside shot (although he didn't get enough minutes to really confirm this). The fact that he did not get any meaningful minutes - even during the 8 games that Marquisse missed - should tell us something about his ability to play the point.

The transfer portal era is truly a double edge. As someone inferred - you get excited about your freshman class and you want to see them grow with your team through their senior year......but many (most?) of them leave after their freshman or sophomore year. On the other edge - look what we have done. We brought in 2 senior transfers this past season who provided critical minutes (we probably do not make the tournament without them). And for next season we are - ostensibly because the players we recruited as freshman are apparently not good enough to step in - attempting to stay on top by bringing in 2 or 3....or maybe even 4...transfers whom we can plug right in.

It's a new era of college basketball and LU is playing by the new rules.
