Still wonder what happened with him and why he flaked out. Just for fun, I really wanted him to go to Wichita State.

Never underestimate youth overestimating their value. Happens a lot. They think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread only to discover they are just a slice and not the whole loaf. Go somewhere where you can make an immediate splash rather than get lost in the shuffle.
Just because his name is Smart does not mean he is smart.

I respectfully disagree 25. Going for the immediate splash is not always better. Each situation is different. I would choose playing at Xavier in the Big East off of the bench for a year or so compared to starting at a mid major. Xavier has a huge fan base with a lot of success. Maybe a Cal or Duke degree is better than the mid major. Play well and you may start and make a splash after you do your time. Making a splash as a freshman likely means the team is not too deep. So I respect a players decision to dream bigger and not necessarily chose a school that has not made the NCAA tourney in over 30 years. Too many players get sold on making the splash and taking and rebuilding a team. Choosing a bigger school with proven success is sometimes better. The CC route may also be better given the situation.

An aside from Roosevelt Smart and his specific situation, I think this is a huge reason why PM's first freshman recruiting class as a whole (Turk, White, Osborne, O'Leary, Combs, King, and Tanner Williams) left a lot to be desired. Osborne specifically was looked at by B1G schools, and then went on the record talking about how LU would give him more playing time rather than sitting the bench early at a B1G school.

WHAT???!!## Can't be, wasn't it a done deal that the Shockers poached him?? This must be a false report. SURELY he will still end up at WSU like so many predicted.

I have to admit... I saw that coming a mile away!

But doesn't this make it more likely WSU poaches him?

Absolutely. It is a clever ploy. These Wichita guys stop at nothing! ;)
