Schools can share as much as $20.5 million of their revenues with players during the upcoming academic year. The settlement also includes $2.8 billion in back payments for athletes who competed between 2016 and 2024. The new revenue-sharing cap will increase by at least 4% each year during the 10-year agreement.

a little more relating to rosters.
Roster structure:
- schools permitted to scholarship full rosters under new limits
- roster limits changed dramatically: in FB, roster is 105 (from 85); MBB is 15 (13); BSB is 34 (11.7)
- walk-ons still exist. Most schools will not scholarship full rosters

Currently our roster has 13 scholarship players and 5 walk ons....is that correct?

The cap number being for the athletic department as a whole is huge. Most predict, reasonably so, that the football conferences will throw most of that cap space towards the football program. Which makes sense, given that football is the breadwinner for the power 4 conferences. That’s a huge advantage for the basketball-centered Big East, and could help A10 schools immensely as well.

We’ll see how well a new NIL enforcement works. If it does, and prohibits NIL deals that are really just money laundering for boosters paying players outside of the school, the playing field could be a lot more level moving forward in basketball.

All this being said, I would expect more challenges and lawsuits to be filed at some point. I would be surprised if there aren’t significant Title IX debates ahead, for example, depending on how everything ends up being fully implemented.

I also still think this is all eventually headed towards power football conferences splitting off from the NCAA for football. There’s just too much money at stake for it not to be on the table for those programs.
