MIVA Hall of Fame

Post by RamblinTank22 »

Yesterday MIVA announced that it will have a Hall of Fame for the conference. The first class will be inducted at the NCAA Championship at Ohio St.

I'm curious to see if anyone from Loyola gets in this first class. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the two best shots might be Shane Davis and Thomas Jaeschke. Jaeschke probably won't because he is too recent of a player, and they may favor some older guys who have similar accolades for this first class. I think Davis should get consideration for all he did as a player and coach, but I wonder if he gets overlooked at first because of guys like Arnie Ball and Doug Beal who have a long and legendary career on their resumes.

Thoughts?

My guess is Arnie and Lloy Ball would be among the first to go in.

Maybe they want him to finish his degree and graduate before he gets in?

Jaeschke will get his due but the list is long. Got to get the old timers in first. Wouldn't be surprised if maybe Pete Hanson who is still coaching gets in.

The 1st class was announced earlier this week.

No ramblers. They clearly put a premium on the early part of the conference. Every inductee was around in the 1960s and early 1970s. Even Arnie Ball who stated coaching at IPFW in 1978 missed. For a comparison, Jackson Bailey is in. The description provided is "Coached Earlham to NAIA District Champs in 1967 and NAIA Championship in 1969." I would say that Shane Davis was more accomplished in his time at Loyola, and had a great playing career.

I understand why they chose who they did for the first class, but hope that they start opening it up to more recent people in the next year or two. There have been some historic players and coaches that shouldn't have to wait long.
