Looking ahead without WSU. Our team is certainly in solid shape heading into next season. The redbirds will reload well, UNI will improve but we've consistently handled Jake more than other teams in conference. I would think a top 3 finish is well within reach. Even if Valpo and Murray State are added.

If we don't finish top 3 (hell, top 2), I will be disappointed.

Then again, that is my feeling in April...well before the season.

St Louis is zero percent chance. I would almost pay for another set of season tickets if that were to happen. Not only do they have a great recruiting class coming in, they have a big, big alum throwing money at the program (ironically, from Chicago). I don't see how they take a perceived step down.

I was down in Carbondale last week, talking to some in the athletic department. Before then, I would've said no way in **** SIU-C would want SIU-E in the MVC. Now, however, given their financial cooperation over the last few years, I see the willingness as a (very slight) possibility. But, even still, I don't see them being added.

We have 4 seniors who are returning starters (I'm throwing Aundre in the mix because he got more way minutes than Kirby), plus another veteran impact player in Townes who was in the same recruiting class as the seniors. We have 3 talented sophomores who hopefully take a big step in their development. We have 2 reinforcements coming in at forward, who will not star right away but should contribute right away. Despite Milt's loss, next year will be as good of a team PM has ever had. 20+ wins and top 3 or 2 in the conference is most certainly a realistic expectation. Barring that one year without Butler in the Horizon League, this is also our first year in a long time without a dominant program at the top of the conference that is unreasonable to realistically expect a victory over them in a postseason tourney for an NCAA automatic bid. So starting next year, I'm done with the rebuilding/culture change talking points. If there's ever a season where you would demand results, it's 2017-18.

Also if anyone asks I am officially saying that after this recruiting class WSU left the Valley cuz they were scared of the RAMBLERS

In addition to Valpo and Murray State, I would also be interested in Denver, UALR, and Milwaukee. As much as I like the University of Detroit and their fans, I think they're in too weak a position right now to move to the MVC.

If the MVC is going to improve or strengthen, it's got to come mostly from current members. I believe Bradley, ISUr and Drake have big upsides, and untapped potential. SIU and MSU are positioned well enough that if an exciting and vibrant new coach came in, they could catch fire. UNI is pretty solid, but they need to innovate their formula a bit to stay successful. ISUb needs to find some money to improve.... they're trying to be a plus team in the MVC on a Horizon cellar-dweller budget. And I firmly believe that if we bumped our budget up by 20%, we could see some huge benefits.
