It all starts with defense. Lucas got going based on some of his good defensive plays. Same thing with Bujdoso.

One thing I haven't seen anyone mention is offensive rebounds. We had 8 tonight and we only missed like 17 field goals. Richmond only had one. We kept several second half possessions alive with that. Makes a big difference.

Some good things I saw: We can really drive to the basket. Between Townes, Custer, Williamson and Bujdoso we slashed through Richmond the entire 2nd half. Bujdoso looked really good except one missed defensive assignment and a couple of missed free throws. He is going to be very good, imo. Don't remember the last time I saw a team get 3 such impressive defensive rebounds off missed free throws. Williamson was great beyond the numbers. We are growing and improving...I hope.

Now the worrisome: Uguak has looked somewhat lost in every game but this was the worst game he's had. As every has said, our free throws are terrible, Too many turnovers but hopefully the 2nd half corrected some issues. Krutwig was terrible tonight. His defense was the worst I have ever seen and 2 or 3 horrible passes in the first half. On a related note Big Frank and Negron were just as bad on D. Underneath we had no answer unless we double teamed and even then we got beat.

If 4-7, for 9 points and 8 rebounds while also holding an all A-10 First team preseason player to 13 is terrible I think we're okay...

We are holding teams to basically 60 points per game, and if we didn’t let off the gas it would be well below that. Yesterday we held a team to 66 despite turning the ball over 15+ times, and yanking everyone at the end of the game. There are things about this team to harp on, but right now defense doesn’t seem like its one of them.

It’s not the entire defense I was referring to. It’s the defense under the basket. It was terrible all game. I was there and I can tell you Porter was going crazy. At least six times their center made our guys in the middle look terrible. All three of them. Let’s not lose sight when we pat ourselves on the back about defense that except for Furman we haven’t exactly been playing top notch teams. If the center for Richmond can beat us so handily I think that’s a bad foreshadowing of things that could come. It was Porters number one gripe last night watching him “talk” to Frank, Christian andCam. Besides that the D was pretty good.

That will be one of the better centers we play this season. He (Grant Golden) was preseason all-conference in the Atlantic-10. No small feat. He had his season low in rebounds and points against us.

But do agree generally that our defense down low isn't where it needs to be yet.

Yep, well aware of him. He is very good. I had my roommate watch the game again. He went around us without any defense 8 times (missed 2 of those shots). Everyone (including me) wants to see more Frank and Christian. Every time Porter put them in, he pulled them out quickly and immediately admonished them on the bench. He was even more ticked off at Cameron. Even with Golden's ability and rep, a Freshman of the year/Final Four center needs to play a lot better. When we started double teaming him, we stopped Golden better and that's why he had a lower point total. We will not be able to compensate as much against better teams. Lastly, he may have had his lowest point total but I don't want to compare us to IUPUI, Longwood, and St. Francis BK. GO RAMBLERS!
