Around the Valley

Post by goramblers2011 »

Reviving this thread as the conference race heats up.

Drake finishes the sweep @Missouri State after a long COVID layoff. They look REALLY good on offense. Pressure is now on Loyola to sweep the Bears in Springfield this weekend to keep pace with Drake--that'll be tough as Prim/Mosley are an absolute handful and Loyola has had trouble with lesser Missouri State teams in the past (should say, less talented but similar style of play/attributes).

If both us and Drake can win out up to our 2/13 showdown, I wouldn't be surprised to see College Gameday make the trip to Des Moines. Although there are a few other good matchups that day (Texas Tech/Baylor, Oklahoma/WVU, Villanova/Creighton).

Can't wait for Sunday afternoon. Defense better be ready to a huge test. Lucas/Aher harassing Mosley all day and Krut on the court whenever Prim is.

It was a continuation of a topic that had already been started. But all the same.

Both teams looked really good during this series. MO state will be a very tough challenge this weekend, and we don't typically play very well there. This will also be the first game that the opposing team will have a real home court advantage, with fans and all. Mosley is a real contender for POTY. I'll be content with a 1-1.

Outside the series with us, I really don't see Drake losing more than one game unless the schedule/COVID catches up with them.

That means a split at MSU is essential for us to have a chance at winning the conference.

It seems unlikely MoState would lose 4 in a row, but Drake has put pressure on us to sweep.

Bradley gets a Christian Laettner play at the end of OT 1 to tie it at 70-70. Now in OT2.

Off to double OT after Mast connects on a full court pass to Childs who hit a nice fadeaway jumper to tie things up. Two very offensively challenged teams but pretty fun game.

Krikke and Clay both fouled out for Valpo. Henry, just back from a concussion, scored 10 points before maybe being re-concussed. Freshman Sheldon Edwards won it for Valpo, hitting two threes in OT2 and scoring 16 off the bench. 91-85 was the final.
