There’s still a good deal of oil rigs in the area and especially a little southeast between Charleston and Casey. Take a drive through country roads in that area and you can smell it (among other odors).
I represented an Amish group when I lived in the area years ago. My initial consultation with the head representative was briefly interrupted when he had to answer a call on his cell phone. To be fair, it was an older flip phone and not a newer iPhone.

oh you got me going now....we used to go out in the country to Amish farms to get our frying chickens....and when I say they were fresh I mean they were fresh....they killed em and prepared them on the spot......I remember the kids used to climb telephone polls and connect up there....the real boom was in the late 30s.....

Couple other mentions from Jake Lieberman I forgot to post the other day. Jersey City's post reminded me.

Out of Arizona, but his first year in the states after coming over from France.JerseyCityRambler wrote:7'0 center from Arizona
Probably a bit more of a “project” at center, but fairly low under the radar right now with a huge upside. Not your typical Porter recruit, it’s interesting

I think most of that was due to decent bigs not wanting to go to a school that didn’t win a whole lot and hadn’t been to the Tournament in 30 years. He’s had a number of bigs who were projects. Before Krutwig, it was Kirby and Rajala. And Krutwig was an under the radar type of guy, especially looking back now. If I remember correctly, Christian Negron was rated higher coming out of high school. Speaking of Negron, I hope he’a doing well. Always felt he could’ve been great here, but injuries just got the best of him early.natetheskate wrote:remember those years when we played Thomas and James at the 5??? I definitely don't think Porter changed his philosophy regarding the 5, more than he just couldn't get a talented big men to come to Loyola when he first got here. It certainly helps him for recruiting that he's got so much tape on Krutwig and what he's evolved into.
I'm still very excited to see how Porter develops Hutson. I think he has a TON of potential.

Agreed on Hutson! I think he was a big steal. He has shown that he can hit from deep and some good footwork down low. If he continues to get in better shape and learn some tricks from Krut, he is going to have a hell of a career here.ToledoRambler wrote:I definitely don't think Porter changed his philosophy regarding the 5, more than he just couldn't get a talented big men to come to Loyola when he first got here.
