Re: Next HC Speculation
I hope someone, anyone, is in contact with Marquise, Norris, Hutson, the incoming guys, everyone. This is a critical juncture for the program and, in the current climate, it can all fall apart very quickly.
My vote would be Drew Valentine and try to get an top assistant with HC experience (Lansing?).

Re: Next HC Speculation
Already seeing a lot of Drew Valentine thrown out, probably my first choice.
Dennis Gates (Cleveland State HC) I'm sure will get some attention.
Have seen Jon Scheyer (Duke Assistant, Illinois native) mentioned. Was also mentioned quite a bit for DePaul, but might not have any interest leaving Duke.
Honestly hoping they've already been talking to Valentine and announce tomorrow.

Disagree. Not that Drew Valentine is a bad option, but if we think we can get someone better we have to do that. If a couple kids transfer so be it.

Drew has to be the choice to salvage recruits and people we have in place. Hope he is the pick and keeps most of the staff and team together.
If we look outside, looking at a possible rebuild if most of the team leaves, which is a possibility with the free transfer this year. Some good potential outside coach’s: Yacklich, Scott Nagy, Bryce Drew would be the three I focus on.

I don’t see Mullins leaving SIU, especially not after just two years.
Valentine I believe was in on a lot of the recruitment, and is wanting to be a head coach.
But who knows. It just sucks right now.

I think all the names said so far have been great. I’ll also through in Howard Eisley/ Saddi Washington from Michigan in there. Excellent recruiters who have experience under a great HC. Hurts to even have to think about this now.

Re: Next HC Speculation
I'm fine if Valentine becomes the next head coach, but I wouldn't be happy if it was announced tomorrow. He's never been a head coach before and he's only 29. If he gets the job, it should be because he earned it and is the best candidate, not because it was given to him. If he goes through a rigorous process and gets the job because he earned it, that's the best case scenario.
