Definitely would be a quality pickup. What struck me the most is how much he had to create on his own given the lack of talent around him. 3 level scorer and off the dribble, albeit with an interesting looking jumperswellafelon wrote:

Since we now have 4 open scholarships we might use one or two on high schoolers.

Re: Recruiting Class of 2022
I posted about Martinelli back in August. Was disappointed we never got involved with his recruitment. Held offers from Toledo, Belmont and Valpo (among others). I saw him play a few times in person and through streaming. Really good size at 6'7. Can score at all three levels. Might need a little work on defense, but Loyola has the system for that. Hope we reach out ASAP.
Sounds like Illinois State and Toledo are both hot after him after he reopened his recruitment today. I can't see why we wouldn't want a local kid with his size and skillset.

Alright! He looked like a real force down low in his mixtape. Seems a high character guy too from a family of educators.

Alston should serve as the consistent threat in the paint that we were really missing last season. Huge get for Drew out of the portal

Feel like he ends up fitting the Aher role. Hopefully in a very aggressive fashion like he was at the D2 level.BlattyJ wrote:Alston should serve as the consistent threat in the paint that we were really missing last season. Huge get for Drew out of the portal

Absolutely thrilled to add him, was in my top 3 for the class based on who we've been linked to. Fills a massive need both in the lineup and athletically!

Great get. Two questions:
Does he have to sit out a year?
Does he have two years of playing?

Re: Recruiting Class of 2022
Someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in, but I believe he can play right away (new NCAA rule gives a one time transfer rule without sitting out, regardless if you are a grad transfer or not). I think he will have 2 years of eligibility as well. An article I read earlier said he had 2 years remaining at Cal U before he decided to transfer, so I assume it is the same here? Although if he is only a sophomore, I would have assumed he may have 3 years with the COVID year included.badsneakers wrote:Great get. Two questions:

This is great news! He's a bit undersized but brings the muscle/physicality that will help us in the A-10.
