As much as it would suck to lose Miles, on the whole we've benefitted a lot more from the portal than we've been hurt by it. This would be the first case of a major contributor "transferring up" out of the program.

That said, I do get the feeling that the offers he gets won't be so insane that LUC doesn't have a shot to match or come close enough. And if it is so much money that we have no shot at matching, I don't think anyone could blame Miles for taking it.

In other words I don't think this is a situation where the player is disgruntled or anything, like with Saint Thomas or even Kennedy to a lesser degree. Seems like Miles and Drew are still on the same page, and I'm sure Miles will give it his all this year.

We’ve benefited a lot from players transferring into our program over the past 8 years. It’s gotten us a final four, a sweet 16, multiple conference championships, a revitalized reputation, etc.,

If true, it’s a disappointment, but at this point, I’m finally starting to learn to just enjoy each Loyola team for the year and hope we continue to bring in good talent and good people. You just have to root for the team in the moment. Ideally - I would love to see Loyola go undefeated and/or win the A-10, make it back to the Sweet 16, etc., — but I know if those dreams come true, Drew is probably the next coach at Michigan State or somewhere else next year.

We’ve lost some decent guys over the years, but, man, have we gotten the benefit on the other side of the transfer process that makes it very hard to complain if you are a Loyola fan.

He described the intel for "Portal" entries as he received information from a program that a player has made a commitment to enter the portal. He has said that this usually means after the season as if it's an imminent entry, he usually is told that by his sources. Kind of a lot of unknowns. But I think the most likely scenario here is that Miles (or his agent) has received some type of "offer" from a big program and either he (or his agent) has made some type of commitment to that program enter the portal to pursue that offer (and potentially others).
“Commitment to the portal” makes no sense. You either go in and get the bag or you don’t.

What power school would offer him money if he doesn’t choose them? What would happen if the school that made the “commitment” to Miles fires the coach? Does the new coach/boosters still have to pay Miles if he’s not in their plans? What happens if Miles tears his ACL in the A-10 Tournament? Or what if Miles has a sophomore slump in conference play and doesn’t improve or fix his foul troubles? What does the rest of the transfer market look like after the NCAA tournament? On this day exactly 1 year ago, Danny Wolf was a first time starter on a 7-5 Yale team. Is the school making the offer this year’s version of last year’s Michigan team?

My point is there are so many variables to this that it’s almost impossible for this to be a done deal on December 10th. There’s a legitimate possibility Miles or anyone else on the team could go portaling after the season. At this moment though, it’s just some anonymous guy on the internet talking out of his ass and charging people to consume it. No different than a reporter like rothstein or goodman except those guys are putting their name to it and staking their reputation to their claims rather than hiding behind a pseudonym. I place no validity on his definitive “will be entering” statement.

Think it's just a non-binding "commitment", with nothing signed or anything. For instance, Illinois NIL collective reaches out to Miles' agent and tells him "we'd offer Miles $2 million to come play for the Illini next year." Miles, through his agent, agrees to that and thus "agrees" to enter the portal at the end of the season and, subject to the caveats of coaching changes, competing/better offers, injuries, etc., would accept that offer. A source at Illinois' collective then tells Trilly "Miles Rubin said he will come play for us next year for $2 million" and Trilly reports it as Miles more than likely will be entering the portal.

I've been subscribed to Trilly's discord for a while. He wouldn't report something like this if he didn't have a legitimate trusted source. He has broken more news than Goodman and Rothstein over the last couple years (coaching changes, commitments, etc.) and has been nearly 100% accurate.

Not a shocker. Drew said over the summer in an interview that agents have been in the ears of a few of our guys. Wish they could get shielded better from these handlers and slime balls.

If HS players think they can come to Loyola for 2 years and play and develop and then go get PAID at the P5 level (im talking paid paid, like mid to high 6 figures) its a win for Loyola. The portal era means anything but the truest of 5 stars freshmen will likely not play at the strong P5 schools, lets fill this gap and win some games and be happy for our boys when they move on to making significant money that can help their families.

enjoy him while he's here

it's a good thing to have talent that larger programs want

unfortunately, we won't see his full development. The numbers that we will lose are replaceable, except for the blocks. It's what he could be that we will miss

Whatever happens after the end of this season is what it is. It’s the nature of college sports today, for virtually every team. No use worrying now about rumors that might or might not be true 5 months from now.

In the meantime, we’re 8-0, hearing into the meat of what could be an amazing year. Lets GO!

I have a question for any lawyer with a knowledge of, and experience working in the field of anti trust law.
Could college athletic conferences and programs be subject to regulation under federal anti trust laws?
Let's go Braden!
