Because college basketball is so screwed up. They have shifted the goalposts so much from 20, 15, 10, and even 5 years ago. Unfortunately, the P5 have so much control that I don’t see it ever getting better. It’s our new reality and everyone has no option but to helplessly live in it.Mudville21 wrote:I watched the game yesterday and I had to chuckle. OU was 6-12 in conference and was playing GA who was 8-10 in conference. The announcers kept saying how with a win OU would be in the NCAA. How does a 6-12 team beating a 8-10 team get you in the tournament? The big conference media spin is just out of control this time of the year. The same with the "bracketology experts". Doesn't matter which one you may like, they are not gurus or prophets. They are NCAA company men who know what is going to happen and are being told what to print or say. It's always about the $$$, ALWAYS!

Re: Oklahoma and Porter stuff
What’s wild about this is that at 6-12 in conference, they actually have a case to be an at large. Who would’ve ever thought this was possible?
But the league is a beast, to the point where, on a neutral floor, I think VCU against South Carolina would be a pick em game.
It’ll be interesting to see the SEC success or failure in the tournament - if they get 13 or 14 teams in, they should have at least 6 win 2 games. If not…

Re: Oklahoma and Porter stuff
He's on the list because Jay Wright who still has huge influence over there merely suggested his name. This is well known.
Richard Pitino and Mick Cronin are also potential targets.
I bet Nova gets neither one of them, or Collins.
I believe the LUC community starts looking differently at "ALL IN" Porter if this were to happen. Would/could have had it made and done that here himself but nope.
I don't think he wanted to be here long term to begin with. One doesn't go to visit dumpster fire St. John's (at that time in 2019) less than a year removed from a final four and a nice pay raise.

I'm as big a Loyola homer as the next guy, but I gotta respectfully disagree with that stance on Porter being able to build Villanova here. Loyola and Villanova are not in the same college basketball worlds financially and you don't just turn into Villanova over night. If he gets offered Villanova he should absolutely take it and it would have absolutley 0 impact on my thoughts of his tenure here.
Re: Oklahoma and Porter stuff
Agree with your thoughts on the Villanova and Porter. Villanova is a national program on account of Jay Wright. If Porter (or Collins) can get to Villanova - run to that job. It would take decades of success to get to that level.

Nova would be a good fit for Moser. Best coaching success was at a Catholic U, Loyola, and assisted at SLU. Played at Creighton. Albeit Nova isn't Jesuit, it's Catholic so it fits better than Oklahoma. I will always appreciate what he did for this school's Bball program. When Drew leaves, I will also wish him well.
Re: Oklahoma and Porter stuff
It's a good situation if our coaches are desired by bigger programs.

Re: Oklahoma and Porter stuff
I think Coach Moser genuinely was happy here at LU but I think it just kept clawing at him...that little voice saying " but can you coach at a really big conference against the big boys ,game after game?" and sometimes you dont know until you know and the only way to know is to scratch that itch...Maybe he sees in Villanova what he loved about Loyola...smaller, Catholic more genuine non-football school.....But hey can you ever really go home again? He is turning into a Shakespeare drama...I hope he ends up someplace he can be himself.Miss seeing him at Bruno's/

Keepin' it real here: best of luck to Porter, Custer, and Oklahoma in the tournament, I don't want to see bad things happen to him like getting fired and all, but I could truly care less about this whole thread.
