New Candidate for AD

Post by swellafelon »

This guy has replaced Rod Blagojevich as my favorite. And, unlike Rod, he's currently available.

Meanwhile, it looks like my third favorite candidate, Craig Robinson, is heading elsewhere:

Awesome spin on that Breitbart article. Presumably, if Robinson were a better coach, Obama would be a better President, and vice versa.

It seems another applicant has emerged. I think there's something charming about a hobo who wants to be our AD.

Wasn't quite sure where to post this, but I have a strong reason to think Athletics is interviewing Rick Hartzell this week for the AD position. From what I can find online, he was formerly the AD at Northern Iowa, he was interviewed at Eastern Illinois but didn't get the job, and he tends to favor the basketball program. Thoughts? Anyone know anything else about him?

Hartzell was a rock solid ref, I know that much about him.

I know nobody is gonna believe this, but I was actually thinking about Hartzell as a possibility a couple of days ago after I saw his name turn up on a list of candidates for the New Mexico State AD gig that recently appeared on the College AD website:

http://collegead.org/new-mexico-state-university/

I even did a little Google search on the guy; he's being considered for UNI's Athletic Hall of Fame, and there's a division of opinion on the UNI fan message board about whether he deserves it. The apparent consensus of opinion is that he made some good coach hires (McDermott for MBB chief among them), but that he was weak in fund raising and financials.

An interesting sidenote confirmed by 08Ramblers was that Hartzell continued to ref Big10 and other college basketball games while he was UNI's AD, because his UNI salary was low.

My own opinion is that I hope we don't settle for a recycled Missouri Valley AD to go along with our incumbent recycled Missouri Valley men's basketball coach.

I know an AD candidate is in on campus interviewing today. I assume it is Hartzell as has been mentioned earlier. I will post later if I can confirm that it was Hartzell or who it was.

I'm already working on nicknames in case Rick Hartzell gets hired:

Stick Pretzell and Dick Hardswell are my two early favorites.
