Moser Gets Extension

Post by GoRamblers »

No, Swella...not that kind.

His contract was extended through the 2017-2018 season.

Not sure I'm a fan of an extension at this point (especially since we haven't done much of anything).

Great job from whoever in Porter's camp got this done. I don't expect much in results this year and now he's not going into year 4 a lame duck.

I'm surprised LU signed off on a 3 year extension. Not saying I don't think Porter can win, but if LU finishes in 7th or 8th place this year, are they going to be second guessing the move?

Apparently Grace and the University have great respect for him and feel he is the man to take us to a much higher level.

Personally, I feel he is a good recruiter and the next year or two will tell us more about his coaching acumen.

I am optimistic!

It was reported on ESPN at the time that it was a five year contract.

It's not uncommon to do this even if you're iffy on a coach. The simple fact is, it's easier to recruit when you can tell a kid the University is committed to you and that you'll be there. If your contract is about to run out and they haven't extended it, it's harder to sell recruits that you'll be there for them.

We ran into this at WSU with our legendary baseball coach. His time is passed and his success was dwindling but the U couldn't pull the trigger on firing him and they refused to extend his contract. The talent level hadn't been the same anyway, but not having that extension didn't do him any favors. Finally, they pulled the trigger this year with one year remaining and it sounds like recruiting has already picked up a bit.

Moser can definitely recruit and will surround himself with those who can do the same. Some question his coaching ability based off of his time at ISU when he had some pretty good talent but couldn't get over the hump. I'd guess that he's learned some things and grown as a coach since then and hope he has success at Loyola. I always liked the guy.

so this was a 2 yr. extension then? 5 orig.+ 2 ext. = 7 total - 2 completed = 5 left

The trail must be really rough right now if LU felt they needed to do this. I would
've thought they waited after this year too. Also, it's just an extension and not a raise? Cause if this is a rough season, and watching how the AD works, his seat will become quite toasty, and you dont want to see LU on the hook for a ton of money.

maybe there was a raise as well to be paid in relation to other Valley coaches.
