Quinten Payne

Post by FLEET WOLF 1 »

The day in August, 2012, after ESPN came out with an article that 6'4" Quinten was committing to LU, because they made him feel like he was number one, & because his brother was there, the trouble started. With Jordan Hicks graduating before Quentin would arrive, with his brother being the point guard, and no one on LU Quinten's size who impressed in 2011-2012, Quinten thought he was looking at big minutes.

That next day, it was announced that 6'4" star Milton Doyle was transferring to LU from Kansas as a red shirt, coming in as freshman with Quentin.

Then as the season progressed, LU’s 6'4" Devon Turk turned out to be one of the nation’s top freshmen 3 point shooters.

LU’s 6'4" Joe Crisman, after a poor freshman year showed a marked improvement in league play in his 3 point shooting, free throw shooting, ball handling, & defense.

LU’s 6'5" Christian Thomas in his sophomore year, after an average freshman year, turned out to be a premier player, 1st in league play in free throw attempts, and among returning players, 2nd in league play in rebounds, 3rd in league play in FG%, and 4th in league play in scoring. A candidate for pre-season first team all conference.

With Quinten’s injury prone brother gone & his odds of being the 6'4"-6'5" “man” diminishing, you can see why Quinten wanted out & it was decent of Coach Moser to grant his request to be released from his letter of intent.

Great post, Fleetwolf!

I'll be honest, I wasn't really that impressed by Quinten Payne. I think the kid probably has the potential to be a decent role player, but based on the film that I've seen of him, he didn't appear to be that athletic. I'm pretty happy having Dolye, Crisman and Turk playing at the SG position. I'd rather have PM use the scholarship for another athletic forward who can shoot the three.
