Sister Jean

Post by Mudville21 »

Well, by now you have probably seen the Sister Jean snub by the Men's Basketball team after the Eastern Michigan Game. This was unacceptable despite the spin that the players were "distracted" This is not the "Culture" that Loyola celebrates and markets and which has defined our program for the last 14 or 15 years. Got to say, it's embarrassing. I would hope Steve and Drew would be addressing this.

On a side note, I think that as alum and LU fans we should start pressing the University to dedicate the Court in Sister Jean's honor. She has been an inspiration and an institution at Loyola. The Court should be named The Sister Jean Court with a logo containing Sister jean's name and her catch phrase of "Worship, Work, Win" underneath. Loyola should also put together a preseason tournament called "The Sister Jean Classic". I bet sponsors and the TV Networks would eat it up. It should be played at the Joe. I saw many of these tournaments over Thanksgiving are played in small gyms as they are sponsor and media driven anyway. I also believe that many very good teams would love to play in the event here in Chicago.

Let's start badgering the University to get it done!

Yeah, this wasn't a good look on Moore and Deloach. It's gone very "viral" and has been picked up by a ton of huge accounts with thousands of comments, etc.

This was not any positive promotion.

LUC and the bball program should sever all ties with Barstool Sports.

Hate someone posted, but glad it was seen and hopefully there were some consequences..... if you didn't watch the game on TV, you wouldn't have ever known.

A court dedication is long overdue.

It has been addressed in a way better than I could have thought of. Love it!

Thought the whole thing was a bit overblown. Obviously not a great look but you could see the players were talking to fans in the stands. Either way, handled well by Loyola PR. Onward

It is now the world we live in...we are a country where the majority of people seem to be mean girls.....I know it was time for Matt Eberflus to go but the crap he took on air from the talking heads was unbearable...they have driven me back to NPR......So I didnt see the whole thing did everyone ghost Sr. Jean or just a couple? Lots of new guys on the team who may not as of yet have a relationship with Sr. Jean.....but there is certainly no FAIRNESS in promoting this specifically if it was the only time it occurred...but fairness is no longer a qualifier for LOOK AT ME sports media....these people are assholes.

Good response there by the team and the social media guy(s). Humorous and shows the love they have for Sister Jean.

Unfortunately, some damage was already done. And the Barstools of the world won't retweet this or shine on any light on it. They got their impressions and comments and now move on to the next social media viral story or clip. Sad.

To be fair, Barstool did post the video a few hours ago as well.

But, in the end, it was a Loyola account that posted it originally. Not sure this sees the light of day without that.

I'm more annoyed by the singular people, with some name recognition, who posted and made blanket statements about the players/team/school.

This was nothing but a joking observation by a good Loyola fan account that went viral. My seats are right there - this isn't a "culture thing" or anything of the sort. Two guys - distracted as they were talking to the person who sat in front of me most of the game - at the end of the line just missed it. The REST OF THE TEAM did not. Seeing SI (who got Sr. Jean's age wrong), Stacey King, and others blow it up further was nuts. My dad emailed me something he saw about it on Breitbart!

The video response from Loyola was perfect!

If anyone is going to the breakfast tomorrow before the game, mention the Court Dedication to Steve. Let's build some momentum for it.

I can't imagine a stupider controversy, lol. I'm sure both Sister Jean and the team DGAF.

But maybe it's a case of any press is good press, given that this year's (good) team seems to be falling under the radar attendance-wise.
